When hiring a new or ex-Singapore domestic helper, a placement fee (also known as a maid loan) may be required. This fee is a standard industry practice and represents the cost of recruitment, training, and deployment facilitated by our overseas partners.
As the employer, you will be required to advance this fee on behalf of the helper, and it will be recovered over time through salary deductions in the initial months of her employment.
For instance, if the placement fee is $3,300, and the agreed monthly salary is $550, this amount is typically deducted over a 6-month period. During this time, you do not need to pay the helper a monthly salary, as the deductions are used to offset the upfront loan.
This arrangement does not result in additional cost to you, as it is recovered through the helper’s salary, not charged on top of your agreed expenses.
